Vehicle Description
1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Deluxe Convertible Rarely-seen
next-to-last-year VW Beetle Convertible 1600cc flat four-cylinder
engine with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection Four-speed manual
transmission Luxus (Luxury Package) Pearl White exterior with black
Haartz top and black interior VDO gauges A great way to start or
add to a classic car collection has landed at MotoeXotica Classic
Cars, a 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible. By 1978, droptops
were the only Beetle models that were still in production. Dressed
in a Pearl White exterior with a black folding top, this car looks
fantastic. The paint is overall very good order, with just some
slight blemishes visible on the front passenger fender near the
fuel filler door. The windows are clear and in one piece, including
the rear glass panel in the convertible top, which is equipped with
a rear defroster grid. The vehicle's lights, including the
taillights with amber turn signals are in overall very good order
except for the passenger parking light, which shows some moisture
within. This Bug rolls on four radial tires surrounding vented
steel wheels topped with full moon VW wheel covers. There are minor
blemishes on the driver's side front wheel cover. All of this bug's
body panels are straight and solid and the roof looks fantastic.
The engine bay is very tidy and its bumpers look great. Under that
hood is a 1600cc flat inline four-cylinder engine with Bosch
L-Jetronic fuel injection, backed by a four-speed manual
transmission. Inside, the black front buckets and rear bench seats
look fantastic and have no rips or tears. The matching carpet is in
very good order, as is the black instrument panel with its VDO
gauges and burled elm-grain trim that lends some warmth. The
factory four-speed steering wheel is in very good order, as are the
inner door panels with map pockets and the mirror glass. Rounding
out the extra clean interior is a JVC AM/FM stereo with cassette
deck. The convertible was now based on the 1302 body. In North
America, the 1302 was marketed as the Super Beetle and came only
with the L Package and 1600 cc engine. While it lacked the front
disc brakes that normally accompanied the larger motor, it was
fitted with brake drums that were slightly larger than the standard
Beetle. 1973 models featured significantly enlarged "elephant foot"
taillamps mounted in reshaped rear fenders. In the engine bay, the
oil-bath air cleaner gave way to a dry element filter, and the
generator was replaced with an alternator. The 1302/Super became
the 1303 with a new taller wrap-around windscreen. The changes to
the cowl and windshield resulted in slight redesign of the front
hood. The instrument panel, formerly shared with the standard
Beetle, was all-new and incorporated a raised speedometer pod,
rocker-style switches and side-window defrosters.In 1975, the
"Volkswagen" script on the engine lid of all North American Beetles
was replaced with a "Fuel Injection" badge. This car is currently
located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on
the odometer shows 84,557 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a
clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!! VIN:
