New short-block,(not rebuilt))installed March
2015, new GM 350 CID engine block (now the engine
has less than 6,800 miles), new gasoline tank both costing some
$5,200; also, $10,700 paint and R&R of all rust w/ new roof,
new floor, and new windshield; new starter installed September 5
2017. 118,200 odometer miles; there are new dealer installed valves
at 35,000 miles, under Chevy warranty.
I'd received the car in 1990 from my dad, at some 35K miles --
purchased new by him in 1988.
To explain the relatively low mileage, a.) I have been retired
since 1998; b.) Since November, 1990 and until retiring in 1998 I'd
commuted by bicycle three to four days each week (unless there was
snow) for a total of some 20,000 miles on bicycle; c.) On long
trips, mostly annual vacations, I rent a car to use. Also, by
far, trips during the years had been highway miles, due to
proximity of my home location. Update: on vacation in 2017, I
am using a "new" 2016 Toyota Camery.
September 5, 2017, I'd changed the oil. I'd changed it twice
before making it a total of two oil changes into the new engine
prior to the new engine reaching 5,000. (New engine's oil
changes = three.) During September 2016, I'd replaced the
exhaust system and a new battery; a new starter had been installed
September 5, 2017. During November 2016 I'd paid some $800 to
remove and replace all additional rust on front passenger door. The
starter had been replaced with a new one September 5,
2017
According to Car Fax, the VIN for my Caprice
ERRONEOUSLY shows a junk status in 1996. I
just found out (September 15, 2107) when attempting to trade
it in for the "new" Toyota. I'd just 10-6-17 wrote to Car Fax
including the fact that the date of the supposed junk status listed
mileage in the single thousand (six thousand miles, I think.)
In fact this car had more than 35,000 miles IN 1990, when I
took possession from my dad. How could it have had so few
miles in 1996, the purported date of the erroneous Car Fax
report.
Current total miles on car is some 118,700..
Four new Tiger Paws tires had been installed 9-5-2017.
This vehicle has been restored to be virtually new at an expense of more than $19,000.
