Vehicle Description
This is a rare 1940 LaSalle, Series 52 four door touring sedan. It
has the original flathead engine 322 cubic-inch eight-cylinder
engine capable of producing 130 horsepower. It is mated to the
original factory column mounted 3-speed standard transmission. This
is quite a lot of touring machine. The LaSalle model was created by
General Motors to fill the price gap between Cadillac and Buick.
These attractive and conservative automobiles were affordable,
reliable and built with Cadillac quality. General Motors advertised
the LaSalles as being assembled to Cadillac standards in the
Cadillac factory. The LaSalle's were practical, reliable, and
functional automobiles. The LaSalle did stimulate sales for General
Motors during a difficult time in history and they stayed in
production for fourteen years before GM cancelled the marque just
prior to World War II. This was the last year for LaSalle as a
product of Cadillac. The Series 52 was known for its outstanding
body style, 45-degree sloped windshield, curved rear windows with
no beltline, and rounder and smoother body and trunk. In 1940, the
LaSalle marque ended as it had began, with distinctive as well as
attractive styling. Even though it outsold its senior 'companion
car', during much of its existence, Cadillac was to remain the
'flag ship' of the General Motors fleet. This LaSalle needs some
TLC to bring it back to its glory. The bumpers need to be
re-chromed and other chrome pieces are showing wear. The interior
is in great shape. There are no tears, rips in the seats and the
door panels and headliner are in great shape. The gauges operate
except for the clock. The odometer shows 88,998, but we are not
able to verify the mileage. More importantly, this car drives very
