1967 Mustang coupe (VIN 7T01C215967); second owner since 2002 (32,000 miles) with build order #21,596; V8-289 with 3-speed trans; runs great, no leaks. Brakes serviced 2010. About 96% original @ 56,000 miles. Fog lights added. Front wheel power disc brakes. No power steering. Charge and temp gauges not working. Black interior with small patch on headliner. AM-FM radio. No air.
Auto purchased from wife’s cousin in Cabarrus County, NC, who parked it in early 1990s. Stored in car port under tarp that wind had worn paint thin on right front fender. After new battery, belts, plugs, wires and gas tank, with a little gas poured into carburetor, the Mustang fired-up and has run well ever since. No leaks. In later years the only mechanical problems were rebuilding brake system (Ford shop), new heater core and clutch.
Body disassembled and repainted 2005 factory dark moss green. Good paint job but not show quality (yet). No rust inside or outside. Four original hub caps and wheels. I repainted engine area and used Ford blue where needed. Trunk area very clean. Seats and carpet in excellent shape. Replaced radio speaker. Taken to one small show and received plaque for “most original.” At a big showing downtown, my Mustang was not in the running when compared with the restored/rebuilt models.
Although I’ve driven the Mustang less and less the past several years, she is ready to provide great fun for someone interested in preserving (or restoring) this famous auto in its 50th year.
