For Sale: 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL in Carson, California

Vehicle Description

Introduced in 1962, the Ford Galaxie 500XL was marketed as a higher trim offering of the second-generation Galaxie, which was introduced in 1960 and produced until 1964. This Z-Code 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL two-door hardtop fastback was built November 4th, 1963 at Ford’s Dallas, Texas plant and originally delivered to the Oklahoma City area where it was sold at Verland-Brewster Ford in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.  Powered by an optional FE-series 390ci V8, the engine produces 303 horsepower and 390 ft.-lbs. of torque and is mated to a Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. Under the hood, the Galaxie features manual brakes and was originally a manual steering car but now features a Borgeson power steering conversion. Originally finished in Rangoon Red with a white vinyl interior according to the door tag, the exterior of the Galaxie has been repainted in the original color while the interior has been completely redone in red vinyl and is in great shape. Interior features for the 500XL include factory bucket seats, center console, and an original AM radio which still works, while the dash features a speedometer and temperature and fuel gauges with warning lights for the generator and oil pressure. Additionally, the car features almost all of its original glass except for the windshield, which is a common occurrence on cars of this vintage. The Galaxie rides on a set of Pirelli P Zero Nero 235/50ZR18 low profile tires which are mounted on a set of 18-inch Ford Racing “Bullitt” wheels finished in gunmetal with a polished lip which combined with the Rangoon Red exterior produce a killer look. Out of nearly 800,000 Galaxies built in 1964, only 8-percent were 500XL two-door hardtop fastbacks, with just 58,306 built, and even though it was the most popular model of the 500XL compared to the convertible and sedan and sold in greater numbers, it’s easy to see why it was the most popular model that year and the best selling 500XL model of any year they were produced. This ’64 Ford Galaxie 500XL looks great inside and out and runs and drives as great as it looks.
