Vehicle Description
When you've got the horsepower, there's really no need to be subtle
about your appearance. This wicked yellow 1968 Chevrolet Camaro
doesn't have anything to prove, not with a strong-running 350 under
the hood, all the modern conveniences, and oversized rolling stock
that give it an aggressive look. If all that appeals to you, read
on, because this is a pretty darned cool car.
Even stripped of all its badges, you know this Camaro means
business. The bright yellow and black paint job reaches out and
grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Fit and finish are
quite good, not perfect, but certainly nice enough to generate
compliments from the guys who have already heard it run, and
there's no way anyone will mistake it for someone else's car. We
love the way the black paint accentuates the kick-up of the quarter
panels, and the combination of black and yellow recalls a famous
movie car that perhaps you've seen. A cowl-induction hood was added
during the build and the chrome and stainless trim was either
refinished or removed to give it a clean, uncluttered look. They
got the little stuff right, too, like nice reproduction taillight
lenses, front and rear spoilers, and nice glass that doesn't have
that beat-up look that some old cars get.
If you've driven an early Camaro before, you'll be impressed by how
modern this '68 feels today. New low-back buckets give it a nicely
finished custom look, and while it has a center console to dress
things up a bit, most of the attention was focused on the dash.
Glowing Dakota Digital gauges, a cool black billet steering wheel,
and that cool B&M QuickSilver shifter for the 700R4 4-speed
automatic transmission give it a high-tech feel. Entertainment
comes from a Jensen AM/FM/CD stereo head unit, and ice cold A/C is
a nice plus for a car you're going to drive frequently. The back
seat was upholstered to match, which is a nice touch that a lot of
builders would have skipped, and the trunk is neatly trimmed with
an original-style mat.
But the real reason this car stands out is the engine bay, which is
beautifully detailed and stuffed full of small block Chevy V8. With
big block levels of power and the weight of a small block, it
definitely brings the thunder. An Edelbrock intake manifold and
Holley 4-barrel carb handle the air and fuel, and the block was
painted to match the bodywork. Black valve covers and a matching
air cleaner add an industrial-strength look under the hood and
modern touches include the aluminum radiator and serpentine belt
setup for the accessory drive. You'll note that the A/C has been
upgraded to R134a refrigerant and with power steering and brakes
plus the aforementioned 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, it's
docile enough to drive in traffic without getting cranky and a
superlative highway cruiser. The chassis and undercarriage are in
good order with lots of new parts and super clean floors, plus a
fresh Flowmaster dual exhaust system. Big Torque Thrust wheels fill
out the wheel wells and carry 235/45/17 front and 275/40/18 rear
performance radials.
For those of you who prefer to walk softly and carry a big stick,
well, this isn't your car. But if you like visibility to go with
your horsepower, then this '68 Camaro has a lot to offer. Call
