This is GT3 RS 4.0 liter is a one of only 17 "Paint to Sample"
four-liters offered to the world. Painted Dark Sea Blue chassis,
#461 was the choice of Porsche factory driver and seven-time Pikes
Peak hill climb Champion Jeff Zwart. With just 600 available for
the world and a fresh service, this represents the summit of the
Mezger engine design evolution.
Like the 1973 911RS, the GT3RS 4.0 liter has already achieved
iconic status in the Porsche community. It is the most extreme
back-to-basics new Porsche money can buy and represents the swan
song for the Mezger flat-six motor.
The "4.0" designation on this GT3 RS stands for the capacity of the
naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine. The increase from 3.8 to
4.0 liters and the addition of some race car engine mechanicals
results in 500 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and maximum torque of 339
lb-ft at 5,750 rpm. In addition to the added horse power it also
weighs less than the GT3 RS 3.8 by about 22 pounds due to front
fenders and a front lid made of carbon fiber, carbon fiber seats,
and even "weight-optimized" carpets. As a result, it can lap the
Nrburgring in seven minutes and 27 seconds, sprint zero-to-60 mph
in 3.8 seconds, hit the 124-mph mark in less than 12 seconds, and
proceed on to a top speed of 193 mph.
Another innovation in 2011 for the Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 are the small
slits on either side of the front bumper, called "flics" or "dive
planes", which produce additional down force at extreme speeds.
This special ordered Dark Sea Blue 4.0 liter would make a great
edition to any collection, or to a highly discriminating collector
as the sole representative of Porsche's Rennsport philosophy.
