Vehicle Description
This delightful Porsche is an exceptionally original 911 E Targa
that has covered less than 6000 miles from new and has been in
single family ownership for the majority of its life.
The Porsche 911 E was introduced in 1969 and designed as a more
up-market yet still sporting model to fill a gap between the more
sedate 911 T (Touring) and the high performance 911 S (Super)
models. It was offered with both Coupe and Targa bodies and, like
the 911 S, came fitted with the Bosch mechanical fuel injection
system from which it derived its "E" designation (Einspritzung
being German for injection).
Another new feature of the 911 E were the self-adjusting
hydropneumatic front suspension struts, which combined the
functions of springs, shock absorbers and antiroll bars and
automatically compensated for luggage weight in the boot.
To underline the 911 E's position as a more luxurious model it came
standard in most markets with the "comfort" package of features:
including ventilated brake discs with aluminum calipers, velour
carpeting, a leather-covered steering wheel, heavy bumper rub
strips and rubber guard inserts, chrome rocker-panel trim, and
gold-coloured script on the rear engine cover.
Constructed in 1970 this example was one of 933 built that year
with a Targa body and was completed with the factory optional
extras of US equipment, rear tow hook and tinted windows. Upon
arrival in the States it was delivered to the Chicago area and sold
to a local car dealer in whose family ownership it would remain
until 2014 when it was imported into the UK. Other than a careful
repaint at an earlier stage of its life, the car was found to be in
incredibly original condition with a remarkably well preserved
interior and Targa top. Since that time it has been in the property
of a noted collector who, in view of its originality, entrusted JD
Classics with a sympathetic recommissioning, which has just been
completed. The work included a thorough inspection of the vehicle
with full overhaul of major mechanical components, suspension and
the electrical system and as such is now in nearly-new and
ready-to-use condition.
Offered with a good history file, Porsche certificate of
authenticity, original documents and handbooks, factory issued
touch up pen, original Blaupunkt radio and presented in its factory
colour scheme of Bahia Red with Black interior it provides a
fantastic opportunity to acquire what must be one the most original
911 Es in existence. Please contact use for further details.
