THE FERRARI 328 SERIES
The Ferrari 308 GTB and GTS models is possibly the brands most successful and recognizable model. In 1986 Ferrari introduced the 328, as the successor and final variant of the 308/328 platform. WIth the 328, the Pininfarina’s designers smoothed out the front and rear bumpers to give the overall design a more refined appearance. The interior also received updated ergonomics to further refine the driving experience. The 308/328 chassis was also used as the foundation or the starting platform for both the 288GTO and F40.
The V-8’s bore and stroke were increased, bringing displacement to 3,186 cubic centimeters. This helped to increased output to 270 brake horsepower at 7,000 rpms. At the time, the car’s performance was exceptional and still remains highly respectable today, with a 0–60 time of just 5.5 seconds, leading to a top speed of 160 mph.
In the middle of 1988 model year, ABS brakes were made available as an option, which necessitated a redesign of the suspension geometry to provide negative offset. The traditional Ferrari "star" wheels became a convex design to house the revised ABS braking system.
