Take a stroll through your local MoPar dealer and it becomes
blatantly obvious that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles peddles many of
the world's coolest performance offerings. For starters, there's a
whole family of SRTs that includes the Dodge Charger, Dodge
Challenger, Chrysler 300, Jeep Grand Cherokee and recently inducted
Dodge Durango. If you want to get less traditional, there's Fiat's
zippy 500 Abarth, Alfa Romeo's sinuous 4C or Maserati's classy
GranTurismo. And that's not even counting the forthcoming Jeep
Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, a 'heavy American SUV' that promises to
be the ultimate lifted hot rod. That's literally a couple of
mouthfuls of serious enthusiast cars. But, as incredible as all
that metal is, there's still one car that represents the very best
of what Chrysler can create: the brutal Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Combining 707 horsepower with a quick-shifting 8-speed, this
Hellcat is a world-beating performance icon that's logged a scant
41 miles. And if you enjoy going REALLY fast and turning a lot of
heads, it's a modern Detroit marvel that's just your style!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Beginning life at Chrysler's excellent Brampton manufacturing
facility, this crisp, 1-owner Challenger has roamed less than 100
miles of clean blacktop. Pull the car under the lights and you'll
find vivid TorRed Clear Coat that's been pampered and paraded its
entire existence. Below that lust worthy canvas, original
sheetmetal fits precisely, displaying excellent build quality. A
close look down that slab-sided fuselage reveals not so much as a
dent or ding anywhere: spotless aesthetics that are reinforced by a
clean CarFax report. And it all adds up to one slick modern MoPar
that wraps world-beating performance in a substantial sense of
style!
Challengers have never been safe havens for the meek. And they're
almost morally offensive to folks who like their cars as bland as
rice cakes. So, as if to bully critics in to submission, Chrysler
dressed this coupe to just south of audacious using a full array of
gnarly aesthetics. At the front of the car, Matte Black grilles
hang a racy "SRT" badge between a trick air intake, an aggressive
chin spoiler and automatic high intensity headlamps. Behind that
spoiler, a tall profile founds cool Hellcat emblems between Matte
Black rockers, a Satin Black fuel filler and heated, color-keyed
mirrors. Those mirrors reflect a Hellcat-exclusive hood,
Hellcat-branded glass and a Satin Black SRT deck spoiler. And
beneath that spoiler, a "DODGE" branded valance hangs LED split
taillights above polished exhaust tips.
ENGINE
As we all know, Chrysler's Hemi has never been defined by white
noise and empty promises. Straight from the factory the company's
stalwart 5.7 liter makes an impressive 375 horsepower. With the
help of SRT, and a nostalgically magical 392 cubic inches of
displacement, it creates a killer 485 horsepower. And with the help
of SRT and a twin-screw supercharger, the 6.2 liter Hellcat Hemi
twists stout 9.5 to 1 compression into 707 horsepower and 650
lb./ft. of vision-blurring torque! Naturally, the car's engine
compartment comes together just as well as its muscular exterior.
Chrysler's install is exceptionally tidy, forgoing the current
'plastic dome of doom' cowl trend in favor of Hemi Orange valve
covers and Hemi-themed coil covers. The Cast Silver mill is clean
and, like the car's TorRed inner fenders, shows virtually no signs
of weathering. And best of all, this is a Hemi that'll fire up in
any weather, drive thousands of miles before anyone needs to turn
its bolts, and probably lay waste to any old school muscle car
that's brave enough to make a charge.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Straight from Auburn Hills, Chrysler's LX platform was a solid
foundation that could easily spawn multiple rear and all-wheel
drive applications. And when the Challenger's engineering team
bolted up a Mercedes S-Class front suspension, threw in a Mercedes
E-Class rear suspension and re-christened it "LC", they created the
perfect blend of American attitude and European road manners. The
brutal Hemi commands eight forward gears through a new generation
TorqueFlite automatic, which pairs Chrysler's proven AutoStick
technology with wheel mounted paddle shifters. That transmission
twists a fresh anti-spin differential, which is equipped with mild,
2.62 gears. There's an SRT-tuned Bilstein suspension, directed
through three distinct modes, that's equipped with adaptive
damping, standard stability control and standard traction control.
Variable-ratio, speed-assisted power steering ensures you'll want
to do more than make traditional NASCAR lefts. Braking comes
courtesy of 4 and 6-piston Brembos that, with the help of standard
anti-lock software, clamp 14-inch, slotted rotors. Spent gases exit
through factory, true-dual pipes. And at the corners, forged SRT
wheels spin optional 275/40ZR20 Pirelli P Zero summer tires.
INTERIOR
Take a look inside this Dodge and you'll find a comfortable and
stylish cockpit that's ready for long road trips and plenty of
summertime fun. At the center of the car, heated and ventilated SRT
buckets wrap Sepia Laguna hides and classy white stitching around
full power adjustment for the car's driver. In front of those
seats, a driver-oriented dash seals detailed telemetry and
dual-zone climate control behind swaths of engine-turned aluminum.
At the center of that dash, modern infotainment mixes HD Radio,
standard satellite capability, GPS navigation and voice-commanded
Bluetooth with a premium 18-speaker audio system that's finished
with two subwoofers and a Harmon Kardon GreenEdge amplifier. Below
that system, a wide console founds an attractive shifter on
like-new carpet that's protected by color-keyed SRT floor mats. At
the sides of that carpet, 2-tone door panels hang padded armrests
in front of smooth power mirrors, requisite power windows and
standard power door locks. In front of the driver, a heated
steering wheel spins factory cruise control and redundant audio
buttons around a power tilt and telescoping column. And naturally,
all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar muscle car are
present and accounted for including: Remote Start, ParkSense,
ParkView, Enter-N-Go keyless entry and a Sentry Key theft deterrent
system.
