When it came time to take the 964 racing with the Carrera Cup
series, Porsche stuck to a tried and true recipe: more power, less
weight. A stripped-out interior, an aluminum hood, manual steering,
a tightened suspension, and a beefed up gearbox, made the most of
an upgrade to 265-hp. By 1992, the Carrera Cup received the 911 RS'
body and a full 275-hp, plus the anti-lock braking system that
could be deactivated at the press of a button. Uniquely, cars
delivered to Americans were converted to racing spec at Porsche's
commission by Andial in California.
The Carrera Cup offered here is one of just 45 built in 1992 for a
special series in the United States. Making it even more unique is
that it's the only red car; the others were white. Showing just
14,000 miles on the odometer, it was recently treated to $30,000
worth of servicing to its engine which the owner reports is
original to the car. It includes its original books, window
sticker, and early documentation. It's ready for racing with its
Recaro seats, harnesses, and roll-bar, but could be used on the
street as well.
As values continue to rise on air-cooled 911s, the Carrera Cup
offered here represents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-kept
example of the rawest variant of the car that brought the 911 into
the modern era.
