Vehicle Description
If you're a lover of rarity, originality, great presentation, and
classic pickups, this is the one you're going to want. This first
series 1955 Chevrolet 3100 is the final year of the iconic Advanced
Design, making it one of the rarest around. But you really are just
going to love it because the bright chrome, simple interior, and
Thriftmaster six under the hood are so correct, it feels like a
time machine.
People who know classic pickups also know how desirable it is to
have a First Series truck from 1955. The Advance Design era is one
of the most iconic shapes in pickups, which makes them extremely
desirable today. '55 First Series models were only around for less
than half the year before the all-new Task Force took over
production in the spring. That makes this truck quite rare and
significant. Other truck people instantly recognize it, too, thanks
to later features like the one-piece windshield and a distinct
front end. That's why it's so great to see one looking so authentic
today. The body is nice and straight, the alligator hood is iconic,
and the wood in the truck bed has been replaced to erase decades of
any tough loads. And while the two-tone green and black shows a
nice conservative style, it still has plenty of bright personality
with the re-chromed grille that looks like an Art Deco skyscraper,
nicely curved bumpers, and color-coordinated wheels with
mirror-like factory covers.
The interior is still working-class all the way, but that's all
part of the vintage truck appeal. The vinyl bench seat shows
virtually no wear, and the same can be said for the door panels and
rubber flooring. Pickups from the 1950s didn't come adorned with a
long feature list, and that actually adds to this 3100's charm.
This is part of an era where its heater was a valued option because
it gave you a chance to warm up on your way home from working the
day in the outdoors. Those are the kinds of things you think about
from this truck's big airy and open cabin. You get to connect to a
bygone era every time you grab the three-spoke steering wheel and
gaze at the large original gauge package. In fact, the only real
upgrades you'll notice are some auxiliary gauges, and that's so you
always have all the necessary info when behind the wheel of your
classic Chevy.
Under the hood is where you see one of the most charming features.
This '55 correctly carries the 235 cubic-inch inline-six. The tall,
long block proudly advertises its Thriftmaster name in yellow, and
everyone also loves to see the original-style carburetor and chrome
oil bath air cleaner. It's still ready for a day's work thanks to
useful upgrades like the 12-volt electric system, electric fuel
pump, and alternator. And you can still expect an honest day's
grind out of this 3100 thanks to the motor's level of workman
torque. So even if you're just out for a pleasurable drive, there's
always plenty of power. For that added touch of period-correct fun,
the motor is mated to a three-speed column shift manual
transmission. One helpful piece of new equipment is the set of
Cooper radial tires. It offers more modern grip and adds real
comfort to your Sunday drives.
A 1955 Advanced Design Chevy is already a rare treat. So finding
this one that's so authentic with the right upgrades for driving is
at the top of plenty of wish lists. That's why you need to hurry.
