For sale in our Chicago showroom is this refreshingly original 1970
Chevelle SS 396. The car retains the original 396 cubic-inch big
block Chevrolet V8 thumping away in its engine bay and has had only
one repaint of the factory color. This is a very clean example of
Americas most recognizable muscle car. Throughout the years, a few
aftermarket components have made their way onto the car, including
an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley 750 carb, and aftermarket
headers to bump up the already impressive power of this massive
engine. The internal beauty of this 396 is emphasized by a mild cam
by Comp Cams which feed a smooth set of roller rockers. To keep the
rest of the car up to par with the engine, a frame-on restoration
was completed in 2000. This restoration included rebuilding the
transmission with a shift kit and slightly higher stall converter,
rebuilding the rear axle with 3.73 gears from its original 3.31,
and a full stainless-steel exhaust from front to back giving this
legend a whole new lease on life. Turning the key rewards you with
a strong running engine spitting and cackling in a way that only a
big block can. A stab of the loud pedal causes this behemoth to
shriek out as a warning of its potential. Everything is sure to
last because of the full stainless-steel fuel and brake lines. With
a factory rating of 350 horsepower and 415lbs of torque, there is
no questioning how these cars became known as American legends.
