No doubt about it, the 1964 Impala has stood the test of time.
Think about this. In 1964 the best-selling car in America was the
Chevrolet Impala, with almost 900,000 units sold. More than 50
years later it still looks like something special and remains a
very desirable car. Now what is the best-selling car in America
today, and in another 50 years will people have any admiration for
it? Probably not; this is what makes a classic so special.
This 1964 Impala SS certainly makes this point. It is a great
looking car from any angle, with plenty of character and charisma.
Note this is a real 1964 SS with VIN code 414 along with interior
code 878 (red/white SS buckets). At some point it was repainted
from its original code 922 Ember Red to a classy 936 Ermine White.
I don't think there's a better color for a 60's Impala. Much of the
trim has been replaced though some original pieces remain. Note
there have been some rust repairs underneath including a new trunk
floor and a new gas tank. The 14" wheels have new tires along with
correct SS wheel covers.
This Impala retains its original D-suffix 283ci engine. This motor
was professionally rebuilt in 2012 with fewer than 1,000 miles
since. Highlights include a 0.030" overbore, balanced rotating
assembly, ARP fasteners, Erson camshaft, rebuilt 194 heads with a
3-angle valve job, roller tip rockers, and an Edelbrock carburetor
with electric choke. The automatic transmission is a 2-speed
Powerglide, while the exhaust uses a cool set of Hedman headers and
Flowmaster mufflers for a nice sound.
The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes for easy
cruising. It has many new parts throughout the suspension,
steering, and brake systems. Control arms, ball joints, tie rods,
u-joints, springs, shocks, master cylinder, rear air bags, etc.
Many of these items are not considered when buying a classic car;
it adds up to a lot of time and money!
The red and white SS interior is in good condition throughout. Here
too there are many new items; seats, carpet, headliner, dash, and
more. I especially like the SS door panels and center console. All
gauges work properly including the factory tachometer and all
indicator lights. Even the "COLD" indicator works! So do the
wipers, washers, horn, heater, defroster, AM radio, backup lights,
dash lights, courtesy lights, and parking brake. So many of these
items are often missing or broken on 50-year-old car.
This Impala SS represents one of the great American classics and
will draw a crowd wherever it goes. A lot of effort has been put
into this car to ensure things are mechanically sound and
functioning properly. All that in a real Impala SS for less than
$20k - that's a deal you don't see every day.
