The Model: The heart of Ford's updated version of a Shelby classic
is its 5.4 L (330 CID) Modular 500 hp (370 kW) supercharged V8
engine. Features include the Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual
transmission, suspension tuning, a body kit, and 18-inch wheels. A
collaboration of Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and Carroll
Shelby, the GT500 was produced in limited quantity for three years
(approximately 10,000 units per year)
The GT500 also came with a very successful launch control system -
needed with 480 lbs. of torque at 4,500 rpm - as part of the
standard traction control system. To get a nearly perfect launch,
all the driver has to do is rev the engine to 3,200 rpm, dump the
clutch and floor it. The system automatically modulated the engine
power.
The Car: This car has been used on only very special occasions.
Always serviced and maintained by the current owner and kept within
the confines of a climate-controlled atmosphere, this beauty
finished in white with blue striped with a complimentary black
embroidered leather interior. Forty years earlier Carroll Shelby
had successfully stuffed a big-block Ford V8 under the hood of his
1967 based Mustangs and created his first GT500 edition. While it
took a few years for those original GT500s to catch the collector's
eye, they had it right from the start, and now is the time to latch
on to a low-miles, performance car such as this 2008 edition being
offered. Whenever Carroll Shelby was asked "What's your favorite
