Produced for only a few years from 1962 to 1964, the Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk was the final iteration of the Hawk line which began with the Studebaker Golden Hawk in 1956. With design influences drawn from both European and American styling, the new Gran Turismo Hawk was stylish and sleek, and most importantly, more modern looking than ever before. This 1963 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk is powered by a 4-barrel 289ci V8 engine mated to a Flight-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission and produces 225 horsepower. Under the hood, this Hawk features power brakes and power steering, and for reliability, an alternator and electric fuel pump have been added. Shown with a Champagne Gold exterior with a red interior, the car shows well for its age with no significant imperfections. Inside, the interior is stock and free from major defects and shows well, while the dash features a full set of gauges which include a speedometer, tachometer, and clock, along with gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, amperage, and fuel level. Continuing the stock look, the original radio has been replaced in favor of a Custom Autosound AM/FM radio with tape deck that looks right at home in the dash. When Studebaker ceased production at their South Bend, Indiana plant in late 1963, the Hawk, along with the Champ pickup were some of the models discontinued when production of the Studebaker Lark was moved to Canada. As a result, production numbers of these cars remained relatively low and just over 4,000 were sold in 1963 making them quite rare and highly collectible today, and this Gran Turismo Hawk is no exception.
