The Model: Chevrolet swung for the fences when they developed the
ZR-1. It would be their attempt to dominate the sports car market,
and it did take leaps and bounds in modernizing their flagship
sports car. The C4 ushered in modern suspension, tuned port fuel
injection and a more subdued shape with celebrated aerodynamics
that offered a fresh American Sports Car from the dated lines of
the C3. Partnering with the Lotus Group, the Corvette folks
developed what would be the heart of the ZR-1, the all-new LT-5.
�The wildly modern engine design was powerful and reasonably
efficient with 16 injectors, which at full blast delivered 405 HP
to the 275/40ZR17s on the 11-inch wheels. In order to house those
extra meaty tires, the designers gave the ZR-1 its most
distinguishing feature by widening the car. �Suspension upgrades
were also made, making the ZR-1 handle as well as it accelerated.
�It should be noted that its MSRP price tag was nearly double from
the base model and customers were known to have paid in excess of
$20,000 above MSRP to get their hands on a ZR-1.
The Car: Documented and well cared for since brand new this limited
production ZR-1 sports the original classic color combination of
the "little red corvette". ZR-1s are in fact bigger as they were
factory built for the track with massive rear tires and factory
wider suspension stand making the car inches wider overall than its
standard C4 counterpart. As a very low mile factory original car
there is not much we can describe about its condition other than
the fact that it truly is like a new 23 year old car.
