Please contact us for more information. From its landmark introduction for 1964 Chevrolets A-Body intermediate Chevelle lineup was a massive success on the showroom floor the street and the drag strip. With its just right size and crisp styling the Chevelle was available with a huge option list and with its affordability it was a natural choice for buyers. Chevys all-new Mark IV big-block engine was available from 1965 with the landmark release of the limited-production Z-16 option and from that point the Chevelle built a fearsome performance reputation extending from Main Street to every one of Americas drag strips. For 1966 the Chevelles performance-oriented Super Sport sub-series was available with 396 cubic-inch big-block power. Based on the top-line Chevelle Malibu hardtop and convertible the SS396 combined neatly sculpted coke bottle bodylines with purposeful Super Sport appearance features resulting in one of the most desirable and enduring Chevrolet muscle car designs of the 1960s. The highly popular Chevelle SS396 series continued for 1967 this time with a mild restyling and refinements to the SS appearance package. The SS396 again offered only big-block power with factory brochures officially listing just two power levels ranging from the basic L35 V-8 with 325 horsepower to the wilder L34 with 350 rated horsepower 10 fewer than in 1966. Not included in official 1967 Chevrolet marketing material however the 375-horsepower L78 V-8 was indeed available as a little-known dealer-installed option with estimates placing the number of Chevelles so equipped at just over 600 units. Curiously while nearly identical to the 396-cube V-8 that powered the 1965 Corvette at 425 rated horsepower the L78 was rated at 50 fewer ponies in the Chevelle. This 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 is a great find being offered without reserve and benefiting from a frame-off restoration. Powered by a 396 big-block V-8 mated to an automatic transmission it also features a black bucket-seat interior and floor console-mounted shifter factory-installed air conditioning and power steering for driving ease. Riding on new redline Firestone tires surrounding chrome 15-inch Rally wheels this 1967 Chevelle SS396 is a great example of one of the best and most popular muscle cars ever built.
