For the first few weeks, the ‘47 model was identical to the ’46 and also had some holdovers from the 46 Super Deluxe model. Items like the red accents on the grill work, central parking lamps, and a different hood ornament make this ‘47 super rare! Ford then restyled the body slightly first by moving the parking lights from above the grill to below each headlight. Exterior moldings were changed from grooved to a smooth design. A new hood ornament with a blue plastic insert was installed. A new hubcap design became available in March. The interior dash color was changed from red accent to gold. By September, the roof-mounted antenna was moved to the cowl. Horns were moved to in front of the radiator from the engine compartment. The final 1947 models were titled in November.
Our ’47 came from a private collection and has been meticulously maintained since acquiring the car many years prior. The ’47 received a frame-off restoration nearly 30 years ago and has only seen a meagre 1781 miles since the restoration and engine rebuild. The ’47 has been finished in the correct dynamic maroon with the beige cloth top and maroon interior. The overall fit and finish of the exterior is exceptional and is highlighted by brilliant chrome accents that follow the cars classic lines. The cloth top is near new and features an upgraded electric motor for ease of use.
Slide inside the ’47 and you will see the interiors well finished wood dash welcomes passengers with its warm, honey finish and art deco styling. The seats, carpets, steering wheel, gauges and AM radio are all in excellent condition. The trunk retains its full size spare tire, jack, and tools with plenty of room for your luggage too.
The ‘47 Ford is powered by Fords 239 Flathead V8 which was rebuilt at some point when the frame-off restoration was being performed. The 239 V8 is backed by the column 3 speed manual shift transmission. drum brakes, sturdy suspension, and a 2 speed Columbia rear end help keep this Fords road manners in order. Push the start button and this Super Deluxe fires up easily, settling into a well-tuned idle. Press the clutch and grab a gear and off you go, a true testament to thorough maintenance and a good restoration.
Of the 22,000 units produced in 47, there are very few left. This car was preserved with a show quality restoration so that future generations can enjoy a bit of Ford history too.
