The previous owners reportedly only put 34,756 miles on the car over the last 16 years! TheLotus Esprit was built in Hethel,Englandbetween 1976 and 2004. The silverItaldesignconcept that eventually became the Esprit was unveiled at theTurin Motor Showin 1972 as aconcept car, and was a development of a stretchedLotus Europachassis. It was among the first of designer Girogetto Giugiaro's Polygonal "folded paper" designs. Originally, the nameKiwiwas proposed, but in keeping with the Lotus tradition of having all car model names start with the letter "E", the name became Esprit. First introduced in 1976, and treated to a successful restyle at the hands of McLaren F1 stylist Peter Stevens in 1987, the Esprit has become part of the supercar scenery. Beginning with the 1996 models, theEsprit used Lotus' self-developed all-aluminum, twin-turbocharged (Garrett T25/60 turbos) 90-degree V-8, Code-named Type 918, in front of a Renault-sourced manual transmission. Derek Bell developed an uprated gearbox that overcame a lot of the gearbox problems with a much thicker, single piece input shaft. In period tests, 0 to 60 miles per hour came in at 4.4 seconds and top speeds of over 175mph were achieved. This car has a matching numbers engine. The 2000 model year brought the following updates: AP Racing cross-drilled two-piece brake discs with four piston calipers, replacing the previous Brembo System (1995-1999) on the front brakes. Rears retained the small single piston Brembo caliper on new mounting brackets to accommodate the larger two-piece drilled discs Revised Engine Management System - this new engine control module (ECM)enhances torque application in lower gears, providing improved in-gear acceleration and greater flexibility on demanding roads An onboard refueling vapor recovery (ORVR) system Machined finish "Lotus" name on engine cam covers The standardLotus-O.Z. Racing six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels now come with Lotus centers Center console and door inserts finished in body color The taillamp and license plate surrounds are now finished in body color instead of black trim (1995-1999) to elegantly finish the rear of the car Finished in Black Metallic, this car's paint and trim in very good condition, with only some minor blemishes visible upon close examination. The windshield and other glass panels are also in very good condition, as are the vehicle's lights. This English beauty rolls on Toyo Proxes tires, size 235/40ZR17 in front and 285/35ZR18 in back, wrapped around six-spoke factory OZ alloy wheels. The car's body panels are in great shape and under the front "trunk" is a full-size spare tire, air conditioning and brake hardware. The bay of this mid-engine car is tidy and the bumpers are in excellent shape. Inside, the black leather bucket seats with their active seat belts are in excellent condition while the matching black carpet is in good shape. The glass sunroof comprises the entire roof section, is tinted and intact. The instrument panel, with its VDO gauges and passenger air bag, is in very good order, as are the four-spoke, GM-sourced steering wheel with driver's airbag, door panels, mirrors, center console and shift lever topped with a silver ball. Completing the interior is an Alpine AM/FM stereo with CD player. Driver assist features include power windows and locks. After 2000, Lotus made little development aside from minor cosmetic changes. Esprit production ceased in February 2004 after a 28-year production run with a total of 10,675 produced. Competition to this Lotus in 2000 included Acura NSX, Ferrari's 360 Modena F1 and Aston Martin's DB7 Vantage. This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 34,756 miles and is understood to be original. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt Texas title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
