For Sale at Auction: 1968 Pontiac GTO in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

This is the rare and desirable Ram Air I model GTO. It is one of only 650 special 4-speed Ram Air I GTOs built by Pontiac in 1968. It comes from the private collection of Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) founder Jim Mattison. The Ram Air package was Pontiac's top performance package in 1968. It consisted of: Special cylinder heads (code 31), a Special Ram-Air cold air induction system, special high-flow exhaust manifolds and exhaust system, special high-lift camshaft, close-ratio 4-speed and heavy-duty Safe-T-Track 4.33:1-ratio rear axle. It was built at the Pontiac Assembly Plant in Pontiac, MI, on 12/12/1967. It was then shipped to Bill Cox Pontiac, Inc., in Logansport, IN, for delivery to the first owner. Over the next 40 years, the car then led a pampered life. It received a recent restoration and was completed earlier this year. It was disassembled and stripped to bare metal by Ice Nine Customs in Clinton Township, MI. The all-metal body of this vehicle was gone over from front to back and the body fit is laser-straight and better-than-new. Once the body was prepared, everything was given a fresh coat of the correct Meridian Turquoise (code KK), using the best modern DuPont base coat/clear coat paint. The 400ci Ram-Air I engine (code XS) block was honed and new pistons, rings and bearings were installed. The crank was checked and lightly refinished. The Ram Air I 31 cylinder heads were checked and given a valve job, along with new valves and valve springs. Everything was reassembled and the entire engine assembly was given a coat of correct Pontiac silver-blue engine paint. No stone was left unturned and the black bucket seat interior was completely redone, using nothing but the best or correct materials. All instruments and gauges were checked for operation. The restoration on this GTO is factory-correct, right down to the correct-style Firestone wide oval red-stripe tires. The car comes with a complete set of the (PHS) Pontiac Historic Services paperwork and Pontiac Division Window Sticker.
