For Sale at Auction: 1999 Mazda Miata in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

In 2010, the father-son team of Harvey Siegel and Luke Siegel went on a mission to break the world's land speed record in a category that seemed to have vulnerability; the under 2-liter GT production. Harvey founded and resurrected the Virginia International Raceway. Siegel selected Ryan Pilla, of the Car Doctor who specialized in Mazda Miata spec racing, to build the world's fastest Mazda Miata. It would have to break the world's record at Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2011. A super low-mileage, pristine 1999 Mazda Miata was located and dissembled and completely rebuilt. It needed to run straight as a die and blindingly fast, all in an assault on the world's record. Armed with an unlimited budget, the Siegel team weighed-in on the design and driving, but virtually everything else was dialed in for top speed and safety. Records are tough to break but with decades of gearhead experience and without budget restraints, they built this car. Harvey Siegel, the senior member, already in his late 70s, set the bar high: Whatever it takes to break the world's record on the first visit to Bonneville Speed Week. This yellow and red 1999 Mazda Miata is the product of that amazing effort. It still holds the world record to this day. The 2-liter 1999 Miata engine produces 362hp at 9,000 rpm on the dyno. 5-speed manual transmission. After three hours of scrutineering, it was referred to as the best rookie-prepared car ever to pass through their system. This car is authentic, historic and still the reigning record-holder having passed a two-way average speed through the traps at 165.296 mph. It's whimsically described as going two 160-plus. ** NOT STREET LEGAL. SOLD ON BILL OF SALE. **
