The Road Runner was a performance based car produced by Plymouth from 1968 to 1980. Its initial concept was to take the muscle car back to its basic form, a cheap car with a big motor. Which by the way the Road Runner came through on all accounts. Consequently the Road Runner outsold the heavily optioned, more expensive GTX , the back to basics idea worked. Plymouth did pay Warner Bros. $50,000 for permission to use the name and likeness of their popular cartoon character Road Runner, and even shelled out $10,000 to develop the "beep beep" horn.
