For Sale: 1936 Auburn MODEL 8-852 SPEEDSTER in Arlington, Texas

Vehicle Description

1936 Auburn Speedster

This was one of the world's first supercars and this one has all of the performance of the original if not more. Today, they're closing in on $1,000,000.00 if you can find one, but replicas like this handsome white one built her in Washington is an affordable way to enjoy the experience of being a one car parade without the massive investment.

The sturdy fiberglass body is a dead-ringer for the original, and unlike so many replicas, the owner went to great lengths to get the little stuff exactly right. The flaring pontoon style fenders, the sloping enclosed radiator shell that was radical for the period, and the car's defining feature, the pointed "boat tail" have all been expertly rendered here. The bright white paint was done in the 80's and is this particular car's original color, and there's no arguing that it's dramatic and extremely flashy.

Finish quality is very nice, with smooth surfaces and excellent gaps, and there are no squeaks and rattles owing to the sturdy build quality. The Auburn was noted for its relative lack of chrome, but the bumpers, grille insert, exhaust pipes and steeply raked V-shaped windshield all shine up brightly. This is one heck of a good-looking car, proving once again that great design knows no age. This car has been owned by one family it's entire life and was built with the idea of it lasting for ever if cared for like it has been.

The interior is substantially more updated than the bodywork, with gorgeous bucket seats tucked snugly together in the cockpit. The red leather is done incredibly well and the door panels have been finished using the same material. k. Twin instrument panels made of oak add to the close-coupled feel, with the driver enjoying a full array of white-faced gauges from Classic Instruments, all stashed behind an Auburn wooden steering wheel atop a the steering column. An old school AM/FM/cassette stereo has been installed in front of the passenger and fills the small cockpit with sound (we can change out for a retro modern one with Bluetooth at dealer cost), and despite the pointed tail, there's reasonable storage space accessible through a golf bag door on the passenger's side. A complete convertible top is included.

While the original was powered by a supercharged straight-8, this one is significantly more reliable and easy to service being a 390 cubic inch Ford V8. The chassis was lengthened to match the Auburn's original 127-inch wheelbase, but it keeps all its familiar hardware, including the powerful V8 and 3-speed automatic transmission. Underneath there's an independent front suspension with power steering and power disc brakes, while the live axle out back hangs on trailing arms, coil springs, and air shocks. A single exhaust system is quiet and unobtrusive, and the car is as easy to drive as a late-model.Wire wheels close to the originals are on with 235/75/15 whitewall radials.

One of the most iconic designs of all time, this is a fantastic way to enjoy all the looks of the original without the worries or hassles.

This incredible car is being offered at only $54,900.00 which is less than almost 5% of an original and much more functional to drive and maintain!
