Sleek, aggressive, and almost otherworldly in appearance, the production Sting Ray's design was rooted in sketches by Peter Brock, the XP-75 "Q-Corvette" concept, and GM Styling chief Bill Mitchell's self-funded, 1960 SCCA champion XP-87 Sting Ray race car. Not only did fast-rising GM stylist Larry Shinoda collaborate with Mitchell on the Sting Ray racer's design, he went on to oversee the new Corvette's refinement into production reality. Under that gorgeous new bodywork, whether in roadster or 1963-only "Split-Window" coupe form, was a serious sports car riding on a shorter wheelbase than before and featuring a new front suspension and independent rear setup. The Corvette's many engineering advances came, of course, from the renowned Zora Arkus-Duntov and his Corvette engineering team, which were tested and proven with his long line of racing Corvettes, test "mules," and CERV I and CERV II Corvette Engineering Research Vehicles. The new Sting Ray was wildly successful when released for sale and total production reached a new record at 21,513 in all with demand far outstripping supply, forcing Chevrolet to add an additional production shift at the St. Louis Corvette assembly plant. Today, the one-year-only "Split Window" Sting Ray stands as one of the most collectible and desirable classic Corvette models in existence. This is an especially nice example of the revolutionary 1963 Sting Ray Split Window coupe powered by a matching-numbers 327/300 HP V-8 teamed with a Powerglide automatic transmission. Finished in Tuxedo Black with a matching black interior, it presents in splendid condition and benefits from proper, climate-controlled storage. Highly equipped, this Sting Ray's features and options include: -Matching numbers 327/300 HP engine -Powerglide automatic transmission -Power steering -Power brakes -Power windows -AM Wonderbar radio -Tuxedo black exterior and matching interior - rare for an automatic transmission car -Whitewall tires Exceptionally well-equipped and presented, this iconic "Split-Window" 1963 Corvette Sting Ray is, simply put, a stellar, investment-grade example of one of the most historic and collectible Corvettes ever produced.
