Vehicle Description
The Grand Prix model first appeared in Pontiac's line-up in 1962. It was essentially a standard Catalina coupe with minimal chrome trim and a sportier interior (bucket seats and console). The performance-minded John DeLorean contributed to the development of both the Grand Prix and later the GTO. This 1962 Gran Prix is a perfect example of the 'full-size GTO'. It received a total, documented frame-off restoration in 2004. The exterior was re-sprayed Porsche Iris Blue and the mostly original vinyl interior is in very good condition. A full set of performance gauges, new carpeting and racing belts have been added. The wood-grain wheel, electronic tach and classic Hurst shifter add to the driving experience. Think back to the mid-60s - there was a very clever Pontiac 'Tiger' ad campaign for the GTO. This Gran Prix has a serious 455Ci 'Bengal' tiger under the hood and it is built to run – bored .030 over, new pistons, performance cam, Edelbrock 2x4 aluminum intake/carbs, serpentine belt set-up, oil cooler and full-tube headers w/cross-over exhaust. What a sound. It is backed by a 4-speed Muncie 'Rock-Crusher' and Frankland Quick-Change racing differential with 3.73:1 gears. The owner has also included additional gear sets and clutch components with the sale. Our Gran Prix is equipped with an AM radio, tinted windows, power steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes and 16" American Racing wheels. There are few of these Pontiacs around. This documented, fully restored Gran Prix is a very special one and belongs in your garage. Call 800-650-1055, or visit us at www.autobarnclassiccars.com for additional information.
