The survive of the Corvette was secured by the chief engineer Zora
Arkus-Duntov a former racer who showed the GM Management what the
Corvette was missing and secured the revival of the Corvette. The
introduction event took place 1956 in the Hotel Waldorf Astoria in
NY. The produced quantity exploded to 9000 pcs and ensured big
profit. To prove that Corvette is competitive as a racing car as
well, Briggs Cunningham 1960 took part in the 24 hour Racing of Le
Mans. His best result was position 8. The Corvette was and still is
very popular amongst his fans. Today the C1 is a highly sought
classic car and therefore rather expensive, if you find one in top
condition. Production time was from 1953-1962 with a total
production quantity of 69015 cars. The Corvette had and has till
today a glass fiber reinforced resign body work. This saves weight
and makes production easy. Tail Fins inventor Harley Earl developed
the design for the Corvette. Like a predator this Corvette shows
its teeth in his front grill. The first fundamental basic external
revision was in 1956. The tail fins disappeared. Lateral depression
behind the front wheels in 2 color paint with chromed decorations
were introduced the first time in history. Outside door handles
were also novelties of that year. The hard top was supplied ex
works. The former integrated front lights now were protruding and
the tail lights were integrated into the rear mudguards. In 1957
the Corvette was equipped with the new 4,6 Liter V8 engine with 283
hp (208 kw). With exactly 1 hp/cubic inch (16,4cm³) the achieved
magic top performance for the acceleration of 0-100 km/h of 7 sec.
The fastest power performance showed the Corvette produced in 1960
- the last ones of their generation. Starting from 1960 the
cylinder-heads has been produced out of aluminum. This car had a
complete frame of restauration from 2010-2015, new paint, new soft
top, new interior, new leather, new carpets, new whitewall wheels.
The motor has been reworked completely. Engine was totally
serviced, oil and brake fluid changed. In 2016 a sworn vehicle
expert for classic cars classified a 1- for this car. The corvette
is in a top mint condition and an eye catcher wherever you go.
