The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang's styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. Designed in majority by L. David Ash, the Mustang project had been given five goals for the design of the Mustang: it would seat four, have bucket seats and a floor mounted shifter, weigh no more than 2,500 pounds and be no more than 180 inches in length, sell for less than $2,500, and have multiple power, comfort, and luxury options. To decrease development costs, the Mustang used chassis, suspension, and drivetrain components derived from the Ford Falcon and Fairlane. It used a unitized platform-type frame from the 1964 Falcon, and welded box-section side rails, including welded cross-members
This beautiful yellow over black coupe is in outstanding condition having been restored 10 years ago and meticulously preserved since. This car originally came from Virginia and it is believed to be a 3 owner vehicle with only being driven around 5,000 miles since it's restoration in 2004. The restoration consisted of new paint and a rebuild of the engine with no sheet metal being replaced. This classic Mustang is equipped with power steering, power brakes, heat, and an overdrive automatic transmission. It also sports the optional black vinyl pony interior and a very clean exterior black vinyl mustang decal. A custom dual exhaust was added and I must say it sounds great. A custom car cover was also made for this Pony and is in great condition. The original 1966 owner's manual and a set of keys are included as well.
