For sale in our Chicago showroom is this beautifully black 1968 Pontiac Firebird. 1968 was the second year of the Firebird, but very few changed were made from its debut in 1967, mainly mandated safety changes, including functional side-marker lights. With a variety of available engines from as small as a 250 CID SOHC 6 cylinder, all the way up to a massive 400 CID V8, there was a ‘bird for every budget. This example is powered by the larger 400 CID V8 factory rated at 330 horsepower. Backing this monstrous engine is the bulletproof Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission. Believed to have been a California car for the early parts of its life, the underside of the vehicle is in remarkably clean shape. Most, if not all, of the components on the vehicle are original ’68 parts, or new old stock components. The vehicle has been regularly maintained and a correct-style radiator was recently installed to make sure the engine doesn’t have any cooling problems for its new owner. Stepping into the well-maintained interior is like travelling back in time when style was just as important as performance. The faux wood accents contrast well against the black vinyl seats, the gauges are big and easy to read, all of the controls are easy to reach, and you get a great view overlooking the classic lines of the front end of this beauty, topped with a sporty hood tachometer.
