During the 1980s, the Porsche 911 (type 930) took a hiatus from the U.S. market due to emission regulations that it did not meet. Porsches solution to the problem was to create a “turbo look” 911. This optional turbo look package (code M491) included the front spoiler, the whale tail spoiler, wider rear end; and the same suspension, power disc braking and wheels as the 930. This optional package gave the car all of the same components as the 930, except for the turbo charged 3.2-liter engine. Although it was not as powerful as its turbocharged brother, it was still very popular with enthusiast on the street and on the racetrack.

The turbo look option was available from 1984 to 1989. During this time it was available as a Euro specification car, or as North American specification model. The Euro spec car is easily identified by its VIN number that includes “ZZZ,” such is the case on this 1985 Porsche 911. The Euro model also had 24 more horsepower than the U.S. cars, which brings it to 231 horsepower. This horsepower was achieved by adjusting the timing and increasing compression.

This lovely example has a reported 82,000 original miles. It was imported to the United States in 1986. When it was imported it made its new home in Pennsylvania and that is where it has lived its life ever since. The exterior is presented with red paintwork, three-piece (correct to the period) BBS wheels. These wheels are wrapped with new tires. The interior is nicely equipped with black upholstery.

Powering the Porsche is a naturally aspirated 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine which is connected to a manual gearbox and a factory limited-slip differential. The air conditioning system has been upgraded with a new R134a compressor. The Porsche comes with recent service records and the factory tools.

The turbo look models have garnered plenty of attention over the years, not only for the looks and well-equipped chassis, but for their stellar performance. It is estimated that only 200 like examples were made during the 1985 model year. With the rising popularity of air-cooled Porsches and the limited production numbers of this Porsche 911, it is becoming an ever popular collectable motorcar.
