alarm The internal designation for the redesigned 911 1999-2004 was
the 996. Porsche�s primary models are the 911 (996) Carrera Coupe
and the 911 (996) Carrera Cabriolet original design in 1999 and
both underwent significant enhancements in 2002.The Porsche 996 was
a new design by Pinky Lai; the first new 911 that was completely
redesigned, and carried over little from its predecessor. All new
body work, interior, and the first water-cooled engine in a 911.
Updated 2002 changes included a larger and more powerful engine, a
strengthened body structure and exterior styling changes inspired
by the awesome 911 Turbo. That look included a new headlight
design, reshaped front end, widened rear quarter panels and
redesigned oval exhaust tailpipes. A 3.6-liter, horizontally
opposed �boxer� engine that produces 320 horsepower(SAE) and 273
lb.-ft. of torque powers the 911 Coupe. The engine uses the
Porsche-patented VarioCam� Plus valve timing and lift system
similar to that used on the 911 Turbo. One result of this
innovation is a broad torque curve that provides "ENHANCED
RESPONSE" at all speeds. FAST and RESPONSIVE -This Carrera is
quick, agile and and feels completely safe on any surface No
over-steer or front end lift under acceleration which was typical
of earlier designs and at 0-60 in 5 seconds simply WOW ! It feels
and handles like new and it is very well maintained and a pleasure
to polish. Bullet like acceleration, brakes that stop on a dime and
give 9 cents change, on rails handling, visceral exhaust noise.
