The 1956 Ford Thunderbird was the second, and newest, iteration of an automobile that was already being described in the motoring press as a “classic.” It was instantly recognized by its beauty of line, but offered new ingredients, primarily with its spare tire now being mounted outside – Continental style – for a distinctive silhouette and more room for luggage, plus the T-Bird had better cowl and window ventilation properties. Road-holding stability was said to “breed a new confidence and skill whether winding up a mountain pass or breezing down a boulevard.” The Ford-titled Lifeguard Design provided improved protection for the occupants.

Promising to “quicken the pulse of even the most seasoned driver,” the 1956 Thunderbird was further enhanced by its advanced period design, craftsmanship and the pure enjoyment that comes from driving and being seen in such a distinguished personal car.

Presented only 500 miles after its restoration was completed; this Colonial White Thunderbird has a matching removable hardtop and soft top that are highlighted by the attractive black and white interior. The paint is a base coat/clear coat that exhibits the quality fit and finish of Minter Restorations. The car is described as being a “dry climate, southwestern Thunderbird.”

The Ford is driven by a rebuilt 292-cid, 225-hp (215-hp with overdrive - 202-hp with conventional drive) Thunderbird Special V-8 engine that is matched to a rebuilt Fordomatic automatic transmission. Generously equipped, the T-Bird is also outfitted with “Thunderbird air conditioning,” factory engine dress-up kit, “T-Bird AM/FM stereo cassette with dual speakers and rear speaker with M/P amplifier,” back-up lights, “five real T-Bird wire wheels;” power four-way seat, windows, steering and brakes.

In achieving its flashy new styling and performance, the Thunderbird sacrificed nothing in comfort and convenience – attributes to still be enjoyed today.
