A Rare Find—a fully-restored Fiesta Red T-Bird
Of the three-year series of the original two-seat Thunderbirds, many enthusiasts consider the 1956 model year as the best of the group: more refined that the ’55 and less altered than the ’57, and fewer made than in the other two years. Our fully-restored ’56 is a great example of the marque, having been awarded the coveted CTCI Senior Gold Medallion.
This ’56 is a standout:
• Frame-off restoration
• Original paint color
• Interior replaced as original
• 312 V-8 in fully-detailed engine bay
• Automatic transmission
• Power seats/windows/steering/brakes
They don’t get any Nicer!
• Paint and Chrome
The Fiesta Red paint is a beautiful but rare color and is in excellent condition. The paint gleams and shows off the car’s great lines.
All of the chrome was redone or replaced, giving a like-new appearance to this T-Bird.
The body and underside of the car are free of rust, the underside is almost as clean as the topside, and the engine compartment is fully detailed.
• Interior
The seat upholstery was all redone in period- and car-correct Fiesta Red and White, as confirmed by the car’s data plate. The door panels and carpeting are in show condition as well.
The convertible top has probably never seen rain and both it and the rear window are in excellent condition.
• Engine
The 312 V-8 engine runs and drives like a new one. It starts right up and purrs while it is waiting to be shifted into gear.
• Transmission
The automatic transmission shifts properly and smoothly as one would expect in Ford’s “personal sports car.”
• Tires, Brakes, Luxury and Monitoring Systems
The Goodyear 6.70 x 15 bias ply whitewall tires speak to the effort to keep the car “as original.”
The power brakes work properly and smoothly in bringing the car to a rapid and safe stop.
This car also has a power seat, power windows, power steering, tachometer and a working clock. The radio, however, appears to be stuck in 1956.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges/lights (temperature, fuel, amp and oil pressure) work properly. Similarly, the lights (other than back-up), horn, and turn signals all work as do the tachometer and speedometer. The mileage on the working odometer is 47,394 which the Virginia title lists as “actual.”
A Thunderbird that looks like a Show Car and Drives like a Dream Car!!
One would have to look far and wide to find a nicer Thunderbird than this one. Whether at a national or regional car show, dinner at a special restaurant or a night out for ice cream, you can be assured that this car will be noticed and admired by everyone who sees it.
These original cars represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up.”
