Vehicle Description

Beautifully restored convertible to include all the options you could want! A factory Tri-power convertible from new, this car now features a host of original & addedequipment that includecorrect Hurst-cast 14" polished mags, 4-speed Muncie transmission, air conditioning, power brakes, power steering, power top, rally gauges, deluxe steering wheel, tilt column, and more!!Finished intriple black color combination, Royal Bobcat enhancements, and Firestone redlines! Wow!! Significant changes to the 1965 Pontiac GTO included the famous stacked headlights, simulated hood scoops (could be made functional), slightly longer body, better breathing engine that produced more horsepower, improved brakes, and stiffer suspension! This paved the way for several more successful years, and Pontiac development designated the GTO its own model series by 1966. We are delighted to offer this 1965 Pontiac GTO convertible finished in gorgeous Starlight Black with Black interior and matching Black convertible top! It's heavily optioned with features that start with a 389ci Tri-Power Ram Air V8 engine mated with a Muncie M20 4-speed transmission! Additional accessories include air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, center console, Rally gauges with dash tachometer, original Hurst 14" polished wheels wrapped in Firestone Super Sport Wide Oval Redline tires redline tires measuring 7.70-14, deluxe seatbelts, remote drivers mirror, interior courtesy lights, passenger vanity mirror, rear back-up lights, windshield washer with dual speed wipers, tilt steering column with deluxe faux wood steering wheel, foot pedal trim, and push-button Delco AM radio! This body and chassis on this wonderfully restored example are exceptional! It did start life with a 389ci Tri-power carbureted engine but with an automatic transmission. It was later fitted with a date-coded 1967 4-speed Muncie transmission. To ensure proper coding, this engine is a correct 1965 WS-code engine bearing the block casting 9778789 along with "77" heads, correct intake fitted with proper Rochester carbs with identification tags along with functional Ram Air pan! Credit for the engine overhaul goes to Carr Craft Automotive based in Kalamazoo, MI. Using only high grade components from Kenny Butler Racing and Venolia, this engine features a hardened steel crankshaft, forged aluminum connecting rods and 7/16" H-11 steel rod bolts, performance camshaft, roller rockers, ported-polished-matched heads, all fully balanced and blueprinted, all while maintaining the original Pontiac cast, visual components! It is nicely dressed with a chrome air cleaner & valve covers, GM tower clamps, inspection markings, Delco-Remy charging components, and more! Onlookers with be hard-pressed to discover anything amiss under this hood. The transmission was fully rebuilt by Webb's Transmission Service in Cedar Rapids, IA. The power flows through a newer Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust system with chrome quad exhaust splitters to a rear end axle set up with 3.73 Safe-T-Track gearing! History of the car does include some past history in California before an Oklahoma owner took possession in the 1980's. It was restored there and sold to its most recent owner who purchased it in September 1991 and stayed with him ever since. It has been garage kept for his 25 years of ownership and remains wonderfully rust free from a pampered lifestyle! According to a past story of this special GTO, it was treated early on to the Royal Bobcat performance upgrades by Ace Wilson's shop based at Royal Oak Pontiac in Pontiac, MI. This story may have some actual validity considering the dealer zone ID when ordered new was 3533 representing an original Michigan dealership. Sadly, none of it can be confirmed today as we could not find a list of dealer codes from 1965, and the Royal Oak firm was said to have closed its doors in the 1980's. Our restored example continues to wear Ace Wilson Bobcat plate frames and stickers on the quarter glass & trunk lid in hopeful honor of this past heritage. It continues to represent itself beautifully in all respects as an honest original GTO, and drives down the road exactly the same! Considering the true age of the restoration, it is remarkable! The rear trunk compartment is just as detailed with floor mat, spar tire, jack and tire changing tools. It will come with original PHS documentation realizing this car is now impressively upgraded with some non-original, but highly desired equipment. Service history, title documentation, Please call with any additional questions or requests for extra information.
