and the LS 400 became the first model. The aim for Lexus was to
develop an all-new design to surpass American & European flagship
sedans in specific target areas including aerodynamics, cabin
quietness, overall top speed, and fuel efficiency. The GS series
got a redesign in 1998, giving the mid-size luxury performance
upgrades making the GS the sportier offering.
The GS 400 was an immediate hit giving buyers plenty of luxury and
options a boost with the 1UZ-FE engine that produced 300 horsepower
and known for its reliability & longevity. The 4.0L V8 engine has
four cam 32-valve with continuously variable valve timing is paired
with the 5-speed electronically controlled automatic
transmission.
