Pontiac, established in 1926, was marketed for decades as the performance brand for General Motors. This 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Series 28 Convertible retail began at $2,691 and is one of 19,762 produced. The car represented the most prestigious Pontiac model. The 180 horsepower Strato-Streak V8 engine represented the first year of overhead valve V8 production for Pontiac as well as the first year for the wrap-around panoramic Safety-Plate windshield. The Star Chief convertible was only equipped with a Morrokide seating material. This was an imitation leather product designed for superior weather resistance.
