The Ford Thunderbird was designed to outsell the Chevrolet Corvette and between 1955 and 1957 it outsold Corvette four to one with elegant styling and limited production. In 2002 Ford believed the new car climate was similar enough to the 1955 original. Ford summed up this new edition as “relaxed sportiness”. This Premium Thunderbird is painted in the first year only “Thunderbird Blue” color, the only difference being the 2002 color is turquoise metallic as is the removable hardtop. The soft top is black as was the 1955 version. The hard top was $2,500 and the $1,000 Premium package included 17 inch chrome alloy wheels with traction control and an $800 interior color package that included turquoise seat inserts, shift knob and dash, door and steering wheel trim. The price of this Thunderbird was $39,495. According to a Car and Driver article from 2002, this Thunderbird “is the coolest ride Ford has created since the original Mustang”. This car was also Motor Trend’s 2002 Car Of The Year. This 2002 Thunderbird has a 3.9 liter 252 hp V8 engine with a 5 speed automatic (overdrive) transmission. Features include A/C, front and side air bags, power seats, door locks, windows and power soft top. The Premium Thunderbird also has a rear window defroster on both the hard and soft tops, automatic headlights and AM/FM stereo with a 6 CD changer. The car sports four brand new Michelin tires and the matching Thunderbird Blue hard top is also included. It is being sold by its original owner and is still in immaculate condition with only 22,198 original miles. It is absolutely a perfect car with no faults whatsoever.
