The similarity of the 1936 Packard One Twenty to the larger, more expensive Packards of the era didn’t end with the famous name – one of the longest-lived brands in motoring at that time. With 35 years of experience for building motorcars, the One Twenty continued through every point of example in establishing itself as a fine car instead of one that was merely good. The Packard One Twenty was the product of fine car experience, fine car precision and fine car ideals.

The One Twenty is an important car in the marque’s history because it signified the first time that Packard entered into the highly competitive, mid-priced eight-cylinder car market, while also retaining the company’s reputation as a premier American luxury automobile.

This Packard One Twenty Convertible Sedan, according to the cowl tag, was delivered to The Cleveland Packard Co. on August 21, 1936. The dealership was located at the corner of Carnegie Avenue and East 93rd Street in Cleveland, Ohio, and the structure still exists as part of the famed Cleveland Clinic.

Not long-removed from a 30-year ownership history; this Packard is reported to have been cosmetically restored in a shade of dark silver (reminisce of Packard’s 1936 Arlington Gray) with dark red interior, black soft-top (with dark red piping) and a black top boot. Packard was renowned for their smooth-as-silk powerplants; this is a 282-cid, 120-hp straight eight-cylinder engine matched to a three-speed manual transmission. The Packard exhibits a vee’d radiator shell in body color, an integrated trunk, handsomely skirted fenders, bullet-shaped head and taillights, driving lights, artillery wheels, bright center caps, radiator mascot, banjo-style steering wheel, dual sidemounts with covers, luggage rack, attractive dashboard with white-faced instruments (including clock) and Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall tires.

With commanding road presence, this Packard 120 is a high-quality car that combines a Packard chassis with a modern feel and a Convertible Sedan body that is extremely handsome, spacious, practical and well-suited for the pleasures of open-air motoring in grand style.
