For Sale: 1972 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 in muskegon, Michigan

Vehicle Description

Numbers matching car with a lot of unique fun history in how it stayed matching. 38251 began life in Nov 1971 as a GM employee special order intended for the drag strip. Never in the showroom, delivery was Dec 71 to Applegate Chevy in Flint, MI. Within days, preparation for the drag strip included removal of the original engine and rear end, both shelved & stored. By spring of 72 through mid 1970's 38251 made miles 1/4 at a time running in the 12's. By mid 70's it was mothballed until the early 1980's when the original engine and drive train were re-installed in time to chauffeur the owner's son to Prom Night 1982. In the late 80's 38251 was sold from the original family and found it's way to California and eventually SC (with the same owner). In the early 2000's 38251 was purchased and came back to MI. Included with the car are historical photos, drag time tickets, owner chronology and documentation, window sticker, manual, dyno curves, etc. Great paint ($10-12k) completed in 2010 along with fresh interior seat skins & carpet. The only mods under the hood is an E-curve MSD slip-in, ceramic headers, and a couple of reliability components such as high output H20 pump, fuel pump and recore'd radiator. The original components come with the car as does the original flat hood. All original body tags & decals remain on the car. Seats, interior trim, roof liner, etc all original. Floor pans & trunk bear 90% of the original primer & paint (no rust). Car never saw winters. 38251's motor has never been opened or rebuilt... this is truly driving an early gen 2 (small bumpers!) SCCA with LT1 solid lifter, the original Close Ratio M21 connected to the original CG 3:73 Posi. 38251 Dyno'd at 331 HP (after some minor tuning to the original Holley 780 cfm). Note, 72 published HP was changed from GHP to NHP. Interior is rare white trim on black (tuxedo), and also a rare Z28 example ordered w/o optional rear spoiler. Camaro enthusiasts will know the low builds of 72 camaros, and in particular Z's. Drives great. The history is also documented and organized in a 40 page color "coffee table" hard cover style book. Pics of the engine, tranny VIN available. Thanks so much for looking!!
