GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1971 International Scout for purchase. International Harvester developed the Scout as a precursor of more sophisticated SUV's to come. The only other 4-wheel drive recreational vehicles offered at the time were Jeeps. The Scouts became known for their ability to go anywhere and have high durability. They are a key part of automotive history being considered the first SUV.
This Scout is essentially a custom SSII tribute. The SSII (Super Scout) was a stripped down off-road version intended to compete the Jeep CJ's. Several SSII's were champions of the off-roading circuits in the late 70's boosting their popularity.
This Scout was last purchased in 1988 and went through the complete restoration to give you this awesome example displayed here. Its full nut and bolt restoration has resulted in a high quality build. It's powered by a 345ci V8 engine and 4-speed manual (Borg Warner T-19) transmission. It also features Flowmaster mufflers, Dana 44 rear end with 3.73 gears, Dana 20 transfer case, 4"Skyjacker lift, American Racing wheels, custom stitched interior, cruise control, stainless steel floor plates, soft doors with lexan windows, Pioneer stereo system, CB radio, Stan's Headers, and more! This Scout has been owned by an enthusiast who took awesome care of this really cool build. He showed it at Scout Nationals three times and also showed it at the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous.
