Mercedes-Benz introduced the 230SL, the successor the 190SL, at the 1963 Geneva Auto Show. The new design was met with rave reviews as its squarer shape was a departure from the more rounded cars Mercedes-Benz had been known for at the time. The hardtop roof, referred to as the “Pagoda,” added to the unique design of the car. The car was entered into the Spa-Sofia-Liége Rally, and delivered a spectacular performance, winning the event and proving the 230SL as a true lightweight sports car. For the 1966 model year Mercedes-Benz produced 4,945 examples of the 230SL. Production of the 230SL ran through the 1967 model year.
This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL has benefited from a stunning restoration that was completed in 2014. The car is presented in Signal Red with a black convertible top. Exterior accents include beautiful brightwork and color matched factory wheel covers. The Mercedes-Benz is powered by a 2.3-liter, 118-hp inline six-cylinder engine which is paired to a floor-shift automatic transmission. Power equipment on the car includes steering and brakes. The interior is completed in black and features a clock, bucket seats with seatbelts and a wooden center console. Since the completion of the restoration the car has been meticulously cared for, which includes being mechanically tuned in 2016.
