Offered here is a very rare and extremely cool 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible Champagne Edition. This is just a two-owner Beetle with all ownership history. Patricia Bistline of Youngstown, Ohio purchased this Beetle brand new from Sheehe Motors, Inc. of Warren, Ohio. She nicknamed her Champagne model “Betsy” and took excellent care of the bug until 2007, when she sold the car to our client. The car comes with the original warranty booklet with Patricia’s customer ID card and an original vintage VW brochure that came with the car.
In 1977, Volkswagen launched a special edition Beetle, coined the Champagne Edition, which was a triple white convertible. It was officially an Alpine White Convertible, with a Light Sand colored hood, gold stripes along the lower body, Opal Leatherette interior, padded steering wheel, faux burled elm dash, Lemmerz GT sports wheels and white-wall radials. Approximately 1,000 were produced in total – one for each selected Dealer – part of the ‘Champagne Editions’ sales campaign to celebrate the 1 millionth Rabbit (Golf). This example is the car Sheehe Motors dealership had in 1977 and the one Patricia bought. Our client purchased the car with 44,682 miles and has continued to care for it.
The car is powered by the original Fuel-Injected 1600cc 4-Cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The car was repainted in 2008 but the interior and top remain original. The dash and wood trim remain in excellent condition. The car starts on command and runs/drives exceptionally well. The shifting is smooth and there are no mechanical issues whatsoever.
