Arguably the most popular year of the second-generation Ford F100’s, the 1956 F-100 was a one year only body style identified by its vertical windshield pillars and large wrap around windshield, unlike the ’53 to ’55 models, which featured sloped A-pillars and an angled windshield. Built September 26th 1955 at Ford’s San Jose plant, this ’56 F100 has been frame-off restored and upgraded with a few modern touches to enhance its drivability while still maintaining an original look. Under the hood, the truck features a rebuilt 5.0 liter small block Ford engine mated to an automatic transmission in place of the original inline six and three-speed overdrive manual. The engine itself is mostly stock but has been upgraded with an Edelbrock Performer carburetor, ceramic coated headers with dual Magnaflow mufflers, Duraspark electronic ignition, and Edelbrock chrome air cleaner and Ford accessory valve covers. Additionally, the truck has been upgraded with a Mustang II front end with power disc brakes, power steering, and an alternator for reliability while a serpentine belt system simplifies everything. An A/C compressor is present but the truck does not have air conditioning. Originally light green, the truck has been completely repainted a stunning red that shows wonderfully, while the bed has been redone with new red oak planking and chrome bed strips and the bed itself was customized with a hidden latch kit to eliminate the stock tailgate chains. Additionally, the bumpers and grille have been chromed and the truck features new chrome wheels and hubcaps mounted to a set of staggered Cooper Cobra Radial tires, with 255/60R15’s up front and 295/50R15’s out back. Inside the cab, the original seat has been reupholstered in tan and ivory leather, while a tan fabric headliner has been added and the cab floor has been rhinolined and covered with a rubber floor mat. The truck also has a new windshield as well as new window seals and weatherstripping throughout to keep out any leaks. Overall, this ’56 F100 runs great and looks even better and it has that classic hot rod truck look with the hardware under the hood to prove it.
