The Speedster was the brain-child of US Porsche importer Max Hoffman. He saw a need for a cheaper 356,which consisted of a roadster body, smaller and lighter seats and less creature comforts than Porsche originally offered in the 356 models.
There is no doubt that the 356 was a instant success overseas at the time but took a while here in the states for buyers to come around. So it is ironic that the cheapest of the 356's at the time are now some of the most valuable reaching staggering collectability status with prices well in to the $300,000 mark.
