For Sale: 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III in Carson, California

Vehicle Description

Introduced in 1968, the new Lincoln Continental Mark III was intended to compete with the newly redesigned Cadillac Eldorado as the personal luxury car market of the late 60’s and 1970’s expanded as the muscle car market began to disappear. Based on the fourth generation Continental and the fifth generation Ford Thunderbird, the new Mark III was the brainchild of Ford President Lee Iacocca, who instructed his Vice President of Design Gene Bordinat to “put a Rolls Royce grille on a Thunderbird”. This 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III is an amazing survivor with only 31,739 miles on the odometer. Built in April of 1971 at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan plant, this Mark III is equipped with the venerable 460ci V8 4V engine rated at 365hp and is mated to a C6 3-speed automatic transmission. As a luxury vehicle, this Lincoln wants for nothing, coming standard with automatic climate-controlled air conditioning, SureTrak anti-lock power disc brakes, power steering, power windows, power locks, cruise control, and power seats. Inside the cabin, the original dark tobacco leather interior is in amazing condition and the dash features real wood trim along with gauges for fuel, oil pressure, amps, temperature, a Cartier chronometer clock and even the original AM/FM radio works excellently with no fuzz or scratchiness. On the outside the medium ginger bronze metallic glamour paint, a special order option which included a higher metallic particle content for greater luster, shows excellently and is mostly original save for a few touched up spots, and the Mark III still retains its original “O.K. Paint” inspection stamps in many places such as the gas door and in the trunk, while the white vinyl roof is clean and free of defects. The car rides on a set of nearly new Cooper Trendsetter SE 235/75R15 tires mounted on stock wheels with the original Mark III hubcaps, and it drives and rides like a dream. The big 460 starts easily and idles effortlessly and the transmission shifts smooth as silk, which is to be expected of a car with such low mileage. Everywhere you look the car radiates originality that cannot ever be duplicated and although disco may have died, the 1970’s are still alive when you sit behind the wheel of this 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III time machine.
