1964.5 Ford Mustang D Code Coupe, original 289, 4 bbl., 4 speed, factory A/C & power steering. Very early generation car built in San Jose, CA. All numbers matching.
History – This car was acquired by the 2nd and current owner in Oct. of 1985. The car was purchased new from Hunter Motor Company in Espanola, NM. by a scientist from Los Alamos. Upon his death, the car was given to his grandson who traded the car in. The current owner has been a General Manager of Ford Dealerships in NM and CO. It has received nothing but the best dealership care since 1985 from the dealers best technicians. Anything that needed to be done was taken car of. In 1989, the car was restored. The restoration consisted of:
- Original 289 engine being removed for complete rebuild by McClintic Industries of Albuquerque, NM. They are a noted engine builder for drag racing. All machine shop work was performed. There is about 7500 miles on the engine & restoration since ‘89.
- Toploader transmission was rebuild by David Kee Toploaders in San Antonio, TX. Period Hurst shifter.
- 9” Positraction rear end was rebuilt, u-joints were replaced
- Clutch replaced using Ford Heavy Duty components
- A/C system updated using updated Ford Sanden compressor with original controls (needs servicing)
- All steering components, bushings and hardware replaced as needed
- Brakes updated with front power discs and larger master cylinder, rear brakes serviced and drums were turned
- Styled Steel Wheels with BFG Radial TA tires
- All soft trim interior components are in new or like-new condition. Original steering wheel has some cracks but is leather covered.
- Has aftermarket tachometer & water temperature gauge. 1965 GT Fog lamps were also added.
- Body was stripped to bare metal (was originally yellow) and any small rust areas were repaired with metal. Passenger floor pan has been replaced and is 100% welded.
- Brand new heater core, box and controls, generator, voltage regulator, water pump, battery, belts & hoses
- Comes with original Owner’s Manual, both sets of original keys, and dealership tag for trunk lid
- Has a great sounding contemporary Alpine stereo and four new speakers
- Trunk has correct mat, spare & jack
