The El Camino was produced from 1959 to 1987. In 1968 the third generation was introduced, and the Super Sport was offered as a separate model rather than as just an option. Only 5,190 of these specific SS-396 models were ever produced, which puts this El Camino in a limited and elite group of it's own. The drive train is not original, however it has been professionally rebuilt to original specs. The engine has been totally gone through and comes with a plethora of new parts including pistons, lifters, push rods, and more. Other parts that are all new include the alternator, battery, starter, HEI distributor, Edelbrock carburetor, intake manifold, fuel pump, fuel tank, sending unit, straps, fuel lines, radiator 4 core, fan shroud, as well as spark plugs and wires. The transmission has also been rebuilt. The trans lines, torque converter, and valve body have all been replaced. The front brakes have been upgraded to conversion discs and the rear brakes have a new drum kit complete with shoes, components, hubs, and master cylinder. All of the brake line hoses and power brake boosters were replaced. Additionally, the entire steering system has been gone through and comes fortified with an Ididit polished tilt steering column, linkage, and steering gear box.
