The Corvette body was bulked up for 1958, including the then-obligatory quad headlights, a look that would remain in large part through 1960. The 1958 model was three inches wider and ten inches longer and weighed about 100 pounds more than the 1957 version. The dashboard was redesigned and the instruments were properly placed in front of the steering wheel. Designed by the legendary Harley Earl and re-engineered by the famed Zora Arkus Duntov, the Corvette developed into a formidable competitor on the track as well as America’s favorite sports car.
This example has the 1958 look, but it has been updated with a 1968 Chevrolet V-8 engine that is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The soft-top is white and the accessory removable hardtop matches the bright red finish. A modern AM/FM/cassette provides the soundtrack for your favorite scripted drive.
Production increased to 9,168 for 1958. At $2,793 before options, this was Chevrolet’s most expensive model.
