The Avanti was one of the last vehicles produced by Studebaker before the factory closed in December of 1963. We can thank Raymond Lowey for his innovative design that creates this futuristic sports car, exceptionally aerodynamic, and complete with an aircraft-style control panel. After the design was approved, production came to a halt, and Studebaker closed down. Thousands of Avanti’s were left stranded and incomplete in the warehouses. You can find versions of this car passed down owner to owner through the Studebaker name, but the original manufacturing from Studebaker is hard to find. This Avanti was found in a basement garage. There was a lot of restoration done by the previous owner. The 289 V8 R1(four barrel carburetor) engine does run and shows 75,000 miles on it, making this vehicle worth the full restoration. It still has power steering, front disc brakes, and air conditioning. This car is a collector’s project and has been off road since 1984.
