For Sale: 1999 Shelby Series 1 in Lavergne, Tennessee

Vehicle Description

How would you like to be the first owner of a new classic? This 1999 Shelby Series 1 has amazingly low miles, and it has only been in the custody of the original dealer. So yes, your name can be the first official owner of this legendary supercar.

Carroll Shelby understood the principles of lightweight and high horsepower that made the Cobras a legend. But being competitive means utilizing the best material and technology available. That's why the Series 1 was its own custom build that started from a clean sheet design to be a true 21st century roadster. It starts with Shelby specifying a carbon fiber body for featherweight and strength. The dramatic curves are not only spectacular to look at, but also they're aerodynamically functional. The big oval air intake feeds the radiator, which vents through the hood. Side gills add interest to the function. And it all ends in a rear section that looks like a Ferrari Dayton taken into a wind tunnel. There were only 249 cars built, and it will be hard to find an example better than this one. It shows 2,154 careful miles and so the silver with dual dark red stripes looks new in every way. Even the special 18-inch five-spoke wheels look factory fresh.

The cockpit was engineered around the driver, and from the two-tone leather seats to the full gauges, it's suited to life on the street or the track. In fact, while this is a pure performance machine, Shelby made sure these were well-equipped so they could live up to the high price tag. This includes luxuries like power windows, power locks, keyless entry, tilt/telescopic wheel, and a Monsoon AM/FM/CD stereo system that's powerful enough to hear with the top down doing 100 mph. Speaking of open top fun, you can keep the folding roof down is hot weather and still look cool thanks to the modern R134a air conditioning. You might recognize many of the components from GM products around the same era, which is a good thing. They are all set in a cool custom carbon fiber paneling, but mainstream availability keeps servicing these luxuries relatively easy. Best of all, the low mileage means everything from the carpeting to Carroll Shelby's signature stitched in the seats appears like new.

Shelby chose the 4.0-liter V8 Oldsmobile Aurora engine to power his new supercar (hey, if it was good enough for Indy cars, a version should be good enough for Shelby, too!) With its aluminum construction and 32-valve architecture, it was truly state-of-the-art. With the weight savings of the aluminum chassis, aerodynamic flat bottom, and carbon fiber, this was a 170+ MPH roadster right out of the box. But that's only part of the story. The ZF six-speed gearbox, race-inspired fully independent suspension, massive four-wheel disc brakes, and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires makes this an unbeatable package when the road gets twisty. But just because this is a serious performance machine, doesn't mean it won't behave on regular roads. With features like power steering, cruise control, and an amazingly smooth idle, you'll be surprised at how much you'll want to take this roadster everywhere.

Complete with the Shelby statement of origin, original owner's manual, warranty card, and maintenance records over the few miles it has done, you get all the docs that a first owner should. If you missed your opportunity at a Shelby Series 1 before, this might be you only opportunity at a true first-time second chance. Call today!!!
